Bjarke Ingels’ firm BIG has released first renderings for a new whiskey distillery and headquarters for Blue Run Spirits, a Kentucky-based company and creator of award-winning bourbons and rye whiskies.BIG’s design scheme will consist of a 35,000-square-foot (3,252-square-metre) distillery and a 20,000-square-foot (1,858-square-metre) rickhouse as a new facility compound in Georgetown, Kentucky.Set to begin construction in 2023 at the Lanes Run Business Park, the project is expected to open in 2025.With new distillery operations, the company expects to bring at least 45 fulltime jobs to the local economy, according to a press statement by the company. “It evokes the journey of…

Work on the Triangle Fire Memorial, commemorating the tragic fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Greenwich Village on March 25, 1911, is wrapping up. The blaze took the lives of 146 factory workers. In the aftermath of that tragedy, legislation emerged to require buildings requirements and improved working conditions for factory workers. Since 2013 Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition, an organization dedicated to educating the public about the fire, has been working to realize a memorial on the facade of the building that honors the memory of those who perished in the blaze, many of whom were women. At the entrance to the Central Library in Utrecht, The Netherlands, a colorful new installation features light-up signs depicting names of authors, Latin phrases, and other graphic icons. The art piece, titled Intellectual Heritage, wraps around the library’s arched main entrance as means to extend the library’s messages outside. It was designed by Dutch artist Maarten Baas. The Central Library occupies the city’s former Main Post Office building, a brick behemoth designed by architect Joseph Crouwel in the style of The Amsterdam School in 1924. Civil Architecture has created a sundial with the fragments of round-shaped calendar-like notes that make our sense of time more understandable referencing to the courtyards of mosques in Islamic Architecture. Envisioned as fragmented, sculptural pieces within the desert-like landscape created by OMA, Civil Architecture, led by architects Hamed Bukhamseen and Ali Ismail Karimi, have reimagined the sundial based on the Islamic references in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Czech architecture practice Mjölk Architekti has built a wooden headquarters for Kloboucká lesní, a management company for sustainable forestry, in Brumov-Bylnice, Czech Republic. Named Kloboucká lesní Headquarters, the 1,034-square-metre building, is predominantly made of glued laminated timber, manufactured only about a hundred meters from the site.Featuring a large triangular space where all program elements are distirbuted in four levels, the building was designed to adhere the principles of sustainable design and demonstrating the potential of sustainable construction.Referencing to the mission of the company, identifying itself as progressive and creative in sustainable forestry, Mjölk Architekti developed a headquarters that represents the company’s vision and values.The four-storey headquarters…
Republic of Symmetry, an Instagram account managed by Damjan Bulatovic, features perfectly aligned building elements, including staircases, facades, and interiors in which walls, balconies, and windows are all mirrored vertically. After over a year and half of steady growth, the end of 2022 saw the start to a slow decline in billings for architects. The trend continues. The monthly Architecture Billings Index (ABI) put out each month by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reported a score of 48.0 for the month of February. (Any score below 50 indicates a decrease in billings from the previous month.) In January the ABI score was 49.3.
